Episode 16: Kristen* of Bliss
In an industry dominated by men, Kristen Souders (bka Kristen*) of Bliss Productions is perhaps the San Francisco Bay Area’s most prestigious wedding cinematographer. In a market where the average rate is $2200, Kriten*’s rates start at $7,000 and she frequently commands rates of $12,000 or more. One reason she can command those rates is that she predominantly shoots on Super 8 and 16mm film, and has been able to break into the uber-high end celebrity market. She knows what she wants, what she likes, and is not afraid to tell you what she thinks. In this phone interview, my friend and colleague shares about her journey from her photography training, to becoming a wedding cinematographer to the stars. We cover everything from photography, to filmmaking, faith, the forums, as well as the sometimes strained relationship between event photographers and videographers.
